James Bhatt studies checkpoint regulatory mechanisms in B cells and their implications for cancer immunotherapy. His research has revealed that B cells express inhibitory ligands and receptors that regulate antitumor B cell responses. He has characterized B cell exhaustion states in chronic cancer and strategies to reinvigorate them. His work examining PD-L1 expression on malignant B cells has informed checkpoint inhibitor responses in follicular lymphoma and other B cell cancers.
