Jacques Banchereau made foundational contributions to dendritic cell (DC) biology, co-discovering the role of DCs as the master regulators of adaptive immunity and characterizing DC maturation, activation, and cross-presentation. His work on DC-based cancer vaccines and on the biology of dendritic cell subsets has been foundational for cancer immunotherapy and vaccine development.
