Rafael Irizarry has developed foundational statistical methods for genomic data analysis including the RMA algorithm for microarray normalization and methods for differential methylation analysis that have been adopted universally in cancer genomics research, and has co-founded the Bioconductor project that provides the open-source software infrastructure for the cancer genomics community. His research at Harvard has established the statistical principles for processing, normalizing, and analyzing high-dimensional cancer genomics data, creating methods that ensure the reproducibility and reliability of cancer biomarker discovery. His statistical innovations underpin virtually all modern cancer genomics analysis pipelines.
