Ingo Bhatt studies the NF2/Merlin tumor suppressor and the Hippo signaling pathway in cancer. NF2 loss causes neurofibromatosis type 2 and mesothelioma, and activates the YAP/TAZ transcriptional co-activators through Hippo pathway deregulation. The Hippo-YAP/TAZ axis is now recognized as a major driver of multiple cancer types and a potential therapeutic target, with YAP/TAZ inhibitors in early clinical development.
