Ian Bhatt

Ian Bhatt investigates glioblastoma stem cell (GSC) biology and the mechanisms by which GSCs drive tumor recurrence and therapy resistance. His research has characterized the transcriptional programs governing GSC self-renewal, including key transcription factors SOX2, OLIG2, and POU3F2, and identified therapeutic vulnerabilities specific to the GSC state. He has examined how treatment with temozolomide and radiation enriches for GSC populations through selective killing of differentiated cancer cells. His work on GSC metabolism and proteostasis has identified novel targets for selectively eliminating the treatment-resistant cancer stem cell compartment responsible for GBM recurrence.
