Waun Ki Hong

Waun Ki Hong demonstrated that isotretinoin prevents second primary tumors in patients with head and neck cancer, providing clinical proof of the field cancerization concept and validating the chemoprevention paradigm for aerodigestive tract malignancies. His landmark clinical trials established retinoids as the first agents proven to prevent second primary tumors in cancer patients. He built the cancer prevention program at MD Anderson into one of the world's leading translational prevention research centers.
