Helen Heslop

Helen Heslop pioneered virus-specific T cell therapy at Baylor College of Medicine, demonstrating that EBV-specific cytotoxic T lymphocytes can prevent and treat EBV-associated post-transplant lymphoproliferative disease and other EBV-driven malignancies. Her landmark studies established the clinical paradigm for using pathogen-specific T cells as targeted cancer therapy, and her multi-virus T cell products have treated thousands of patients with viral infections after transplant. Her work represents a milestone in demonstrating that antigen-specific adoptive T cell therapy can achieve durable cancer cures.
