Henry Kaplan

Henry Kaplan was the architect of curative radiotherapy for Hodgkin disease and played a central role in transforming Hodgkin lymphoma from a uniformly fatal disease into one curable with extended-field radiation. He championed the clinical development of the linear accelerator at Stanford for cancer treatment in the 1950s. His meticulous staging studies and long-term outcome data established radiation oncology as a science-based medical specialty.
