Samuel Hellman is the radiation oncologist who together with Ralph Weichselbaum formalized the oligometastasis hypothesis in a 1995 commentary that proposed an intermediate state between localized and widely metastatic disease. He was also a pioneer of breast conservation therapy. His spectrum theory of cancer progression remains influential.
