Heinrich Kovar at St. Anna has made contributions to Ewing sarcoma biology, particularly studying the EWS-FLI1 fusion transcription factor — the pathognomonic driver of Ewing sarcoma — and its transcriptional targets and epigenetic mechanisms. Understanding how EWS-FLI1 rewires the epigenome and transcriptome of Ewing sarcoma cells is informing development of novel targeted approaches for this aggressive pediatric bone cancer.
