Heini Muranen has contributed to understanding invasive lobular carcinoma (ILC) biology — the second most common breast cancer histology, characterized by CDH1/E-cadherin loss and distinct molecular biology from ductal cancer. ILC is particularly hormone receptor-positive, relatively chemoresistant, and has different patterns of metastasis compared to ductal cancer. Understanding the unique biology and therapeutic vulnerabilities of ILC is important for this underrepresented breast cancer subtype.
