👥Biography 个人简介

Adrian Hayday discovered that butyrophilin molecules serve as ligands for gamma-delta T cell receptors, resolving the decades-long mystery of how these unconventional lymphocytes recognize stressed and transformed cells in epithelial tissues. His work demonstrated that gamma-delta T cells provide rapid, MHC-unrestricted immune surveillance in barrier tissues where many cancers originate, making them critical first responders against nascent tumors. He established that tissue-resident gamma-delta T cells have distinct developmental programs and anti-tumor effector functions from their circulating counterparts.
