👥Biography 个人简介
Harold Varmus shared the 1989 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine for the discovery of the cellular origin of retroviral oncogenes, providing the molecular foundation for modern precision oncology. His discovery of proto-oncogenes established the conceptual framework that normal cellular genes can be converted into cancer-driving mutations, enabling targeted therapy development. He served as Director of the National Cancer Institute and has been a leading voice for evidence-based precision oncology policy. His career-long contributions to cancer biology and research infrastructure have shaped the entire field.
