Harold Varmus
MD
Professor
👥Biography 个人简介
Harold Varmus shared the 1989 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine with J. Michael Bishop for discovering that oncogenes — cancer-causing genes — originate from normal cellular genes (proto-oncogenes). This discovery that cancer arises from mutations in the body's own genes rather than from external cancer-causing agents was a conceptual revolution in cancer biology. His subsequent leadership as NCI Director and cancer research contributions have made him one of the most influential figures in 20th/21st century cancer science.
