Hans Clevers is a pioneer in WNT signaling and intestinal biology who developed the organoid technology that revolutionized cancer research. He discovered that intestinal stem cells are marked by LGR5 and are regulated by WNT signals, and that APC mutations drive colorectal cancer through aberrant beta-catenin activation. His organoid platform has enabled personalized cancer drug testing and disease modeling. He leads translational efforts to target WNT-driven cancers therapeutically.
