Michael Hamblin is a prolific researcher in photomedicine who has characterized the immune-stimulatory effects of photodynamic therapy, demonstrating that PDT-mediated immunogenic cell death activates dendritic cells, releases damage-associated molecular patterns, and generates abscopal anti-tumor responses. His work on photobiomodulation has expanded the therapeutic applications of light in cancer beyond direct cytotoxicity to immune modulation. He has published over 400 papers on phototherapy mechanisms and applications.
