Guifang Jia has made seminal contributions to understanding FTO and ALKBH5 as m6A eraser proteins in cancer. Her work revealed that ALKBH5 maintains glioblastoma stem cell tumorigenicity by demethylating FOXM1 mRNA, and that FTO promotes leukemogenesis through selective demethylation of oncogenic transcripts. These findings established m6A erasers as therapeutic targets across multiple cancer types.
