Gordon Freeman

Dr. Gordon Freeman at Dana-Farber co-discovered PD-L1 and characterized the PD-1 signaling pathway, discoveries foundational to the immunotherapy revolution. He identified that PD-L1 expression on tumor cells suppresses anti-tumor T cell activity, providing the biological rationale for anti-PD-1 and anti-PD-L1 checkpoint inhibitor drugs.
