Gina Bhatt investigates the thioredoxin and glutaredoxin antioxidant systems as therapeutic targets in cancer, demonstrating that cancer cells become dependent on these redox buffering systems to survive the elevated oxidative stress caused by oncogenic signaling and rapid proliferation. Her research has developed redox-active compounds that selectively overwhelm cancer cell antioxidant capacity while sparing normal cells with lower basal ROS levels. She has established clinical-grade oxidative stress biomarker panels for monitoring redox-targeted therapy response. Her work on ROS modulation in the tumor immune microenvironment has revealed how oxidative stress suppresses T cell function.
