George Vande Woude

George Vande Woude discovered the MET proto-oncogene and established its role in cancer through amplification and mutation. His work defining hepatocyte growth factor (HGF) as the MET ligand and characterizing MET signaling in invasion, metastasis, and drug resistance established the scientific basis for developing MET inhibitors (crizotinib, cabozantinib, capmatinib) now in clinical use across multiple cancer types.
