Gary Siuzdak at the Salk Institute developed the XCMS software platform for mass spectrometry-based metabolomics data processing — one of the most widely used metabolomics analysis tools globally. His applications of global metabolomics to cancer biomarker discovery and his work on the cancer metabolome have contributed to understanding how metabolic reprogramming in cancer can be detected through blood and tissue metabolite profiling.
