Cedric Garland
DrPH
Professor Emeritus of Family Medicine and Public Health (Historical)
👥Biography 个人简介
Cedric Garland, along with his brother Frank Garland, first proposed the vitamin D-cancer prevention hypothesis in 1980, observing that colorectal cancer mortality was highest in regions with the least sunlight. Their ecological studies showing latitude gradients in cancer incidence launched decades of research into vitamin D and cancer prevention. Although Cedric Garland passed away in 2020, his foundational hypothesis continues to drive vitamin D-cancer research and has been partially validated by subsequent prospective studies and randomized trials.
