Gang Zheng at Toronto has contributed to the development of porphyrin-based nanostructures for cancer photodynamic therapy and photothermal ablation. His porphyrin-lipid nanoparticles that self-quench fluorescence until activated at tumor sites, enabling image-guided photodynamic therapy, represent an elegant theranostic approach combining cancer imaging and phototherapy.
