Dmitry Gabrilovich is the pioneer who defined myeloid-derived suppressor cells (MDSCs) as a major mechanism of tumor immune evasion. His foundational work established that MDSCs accumulate in cancer patients and suppress T cell responses through multiple molecular mechanisms. He has published over 200 papers on MDSC biology and therapeutic strategies to deplete or reprogram these cells to enhance immunotherapy. His research is foundational to understanding myeloid immunosuppression in cancer.
