Funmilayo Olopade at Chicago has made contributions to understanding cancer genetics in populations of African ancestry, including the prevalence of BRCA1/2 mutations and other hereditary cancer predisposition alleles in West African and African-American populations. Her work on expanding cancer genomic research in Africa, on culturally appropriate genetic counseling, and on addressing hereditary cancer predisposition in underserved populations has addressed genomic equity.
