Silvia Franceschi

Silvia Franceschi led the IARC Infections and Cancer Epidemiology Group, where her research established comprehensive estimates of the global cancer burden attributable to infectious agents, with particular focus on low- and middle-income countries. Her HPV epidemiology studies across Africa, Asia, and Latin America provided the evidence base for HPV vaccination programs in LMICs. Her work quantifying H. pylori-attributable gastric cancer and hepatitis-attributable liver cancer has driven global cancer prevention strategies targeting infections.
