Silvia Franceschi led major IARC international HPV epidemiology studies characterizing HPV type distribution in cervical cancer worldwide, providing the evidence base for HPV vaccine type selection. She has studied the epidemiology of HPV-associated anogenital and head and neck cancers. Her work informs WHO cervical cancer elimination targets.
