Rebecca Fitzgerald directs the Early Cancer Institute at Cambridge and invented the Cytosponge device for non-endoscopic Barrett esophagus screening combined with trefoil factor 3 and methylation biomarkers. She led the BEST3 trial showing that Cytosponge increases Barrett detection in primary care. Her work has redefined Barrett screening strategy.
