Feng Zhang is a pioneer in adapting CRISPR-Cas9 for use in mammalian cells and developing new CRISPR systems including Cas12 and Cas13 for therapeutic and diagnostic purposes. He has contributed extensively to cancer functional genomics using genome-wide CRISPR screens to identify therapeutic vulnerabilities. His laboratory at the Broad Institute continues to engineer novel editing tools with improved specificity and delivery capabilities. He has received numerous awards including the Breakthrough Prize.
