Sidney Farber is regarded as the father of modern chemotherapy. In 1947 he used aminopterin to induce the first temporary remissions in childhood acute lymphoblastic leukemia, establishing that cancer could be treated with drugs. He founded what became the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and shaped pediatric oncology worldwide.
