Fabien Zoulim

Fabien Zoulim leads translational research toward functional cure of hepatitis B virus infection through targeting of the nuclear covalently closed circular DNA (cccDNA) viral reservoir. His research has characterized the molecular biology of HBV cccDNA establishment, maintenance, and transcriptional regulation in hepatocytes. He has evaluated novel antiviral strategies including RNA interference, capsid assembly modulators, and nucleic acid polymers targeting different steps of the HBV replication cycle to achieve functional cure. Elimination of cccDNA to achieve functional HBV cure is critical for preventing the long-term risk of HCC in chronically infected patients.
