Ervin Bhatt investigates mechanisms of resistance to Smoothened inhibitors in advanced basal cell carcinoma. His research has characterized primary and acquired resistance mechanisms including SMO mutations, downstream GLI amplification, and alternative pathway activation. He has evaluated rational combination strategies and second-generation SMO inhibitors to overcome resistance in patients with refractory BCC. His clinical and translational research has improved understanding of long-term outcomes with Hedgehog pathway inhibitor therapy.
