Eric Lander led the Broad Institute's contributions to the Human Genome Project and the cancer genomics revolution, playing a central role in establishing The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) and other systematic cancer genome characterization efforts. His leadership enabled the genomic profiling of over 11,000 tumors across 33 cancer types, revealing the mutational landscape of human cancer. He pioneered computational approaches for identifying cancer driver genes from large-scale sequencing data. His institutional leadership at the Broad Institute created the infrastructure for modern cancer genomics and precision oncology.
