Ellen Bhatt

Ellen Bhatt studies tobacco cessation interventions and the impact of smoking on cancer treatment outcomes and survival. Her research has characterized the benefits of smoking cessation at the time of cancer diagnosis on treatment response rates, complication rates, and long-term survival across multiple cancer types including lung, head and neck, and bladder cancers. She has developed and evaluated evidence-based tobacco cessation programs integrated into cancer care delivery. Her work demonstrates that smoking cessation is a high-impact cancer treatment in its own right and has driven integration of tobacco cessation counseling as a standard component of oncology care.
