Eduardo Bruera is a foundational figure in palliative oncology who has dedicated his career to improving symptom management and quality of life for cancer patients. He developed the Edmonton Symptom Assessment System (ESAS), one of the most widely used tools for measuring cancer symptom burden globally. His research has advanced understanding of cancer pain mechanisms and refined opioid rotation strategies. He has trained generations of palliative care specialists and published extensively on the integration of palliative care into oncology.
