Dr. Drew Weissman co-developed the pseudouridine modification of mRNA that enables its delivery without triggering innate immune responses, a discovery awarded the 2023 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine shared with Katalin Kariko. His mRNA technology platform underpins not only COVID-19 vaccines but also the emerging field of mRNA cancer vaccines including personalized neoantigen-based mRNA immunotherapy. His work has launched a new era in cancer vaccine development leveraging lipid nanoparticle-delivered mRNA.
