George Dranoff

George Dranoff developed GM-CSF-secreting tumor cell vaccines (GVAX) that demonstrated the principle of in-situ vaccination and immune cell recruitment mechanisms directly relevant to understanding how radiation generates abscopal anti-tumor immunity. His foundational immunology research on dendritic cell recruitment and activation by GM-CSF has informed the design of radiation-immunotherapy combinations that enhance abscopal responses. His work establishing the biological basis for cancer immunotherapy has been essential for the rational development of abscopal effect-targeting strategies.
