Douglas Hanahan co-authored with Robert Weinberg the seminal Hallmarks of Cancer reviews (2000, 2011, 2022) that provided the intellectual framework for cancer biology, organizing diverse cancer capabilities into now-canonical 'hallmarks.' His original research on tumor angiogenesis — demonstrating that tumors require neovascularization for growth beyond a few millimeters — motivated anti-angiogenic therapy development including bevacizumab.
