Donald Pinkel
MD
Distinguished Professor Emeritus of Pediatrics
👥Biography 个人简介
Donald Pinkel was the pioneering pediatric oncologist at St. Jude Children's Research Hospital who developed the 'Total Therapy' approach for childhood acute lymphoblastic leukemia in the 1960s and 1970s, incorporating CNS prophylaxis to prevent meningeal relapse. His systematic intensification of multi-agent chemotherapy demonstrated that most children with ALL could be cured, establishing St. Jude as the world leader in pediatric ALL and transforming a universally fatal disease into one with survival rates exceeding 90% today.
