Dixie Mager has been a pioneer in understanding endogenous retroviruses (ERVs) and their role in cancer immunology. Her work demonstrated that ERV reactivation by epigenetic therapies triggers innate immune signaling through viral mimicry, providing a mechanistic rationale for combining demethylating agents with immunotherapy. She has mapped the expression landscape of human ERVs across normal and cancer tissues.
