Dennis Lo

Dennis Lo is the pioneer of cell-free DNA analysis who has extended his groundbreaking work in non-invasive prenatal testing to cancer detection through cfDNA methylation profiling. His laboratory demonstrated that cancer-derived cfDNA fragments carry tumor-specific methylation signatures enabling tissue-of-origin determination, a principle foundational to multi-cancer early detection (MCED) blood tests. He developed approaches combining methylation patterns with fragmentation profiles to enhance sensitivity for early-stage cancer detection. His work has driven the clinical translation of methylation-based liquid biopsy technologies toward population-level cancer screening.
