Daniel De Carvalho has created comprehensive cancer methylation atlases that serve as the reference framework for methylation-based MRD detection, enabling tissue-of-origin identification and sensitive residual disease monitoring from plasma cfDNA. His cell-free methylated DNA immunoprecipitation approach has been applied to detect MRD in multiple cancer types with sensitivity comparable to or exceeding mutation-based methods. His work establishing cancer-type-specific methylation signatures has been critical for developing pan-cancer MRD platforms.
