Davide Ruggero

Davide Ruggero has made seminal contributions to understanding how dysregulated mRNA translation drives cancer, demonstrating that the mTOR-eIF4E axis of cap-dependent translation is a critical oncogenic pathway across multiple tumor types. His laboratory discovered that ribosome heterogeneity generates specialized ribosomes with distinct translational preferences that selectively translate cancer-promoting mRNAs. He has been instrumental in developing therapeutic strategies targeting translational control in cancer. His work established translational regulation as a fundamental layer of oncogenic gene expression.
