David Sabatini co-discovered the mTOR protein and defined the structure and function of mTOR complexes (mTORC1 and mTORC2) that serve as master regulators of cell growth, metabolism, and autophagy. His work elucidating how mTOR integrates nutrient, energy, and growth factor signals has been fundamental to understanding cancer metabolism and provided the basis for rapamycin analogue (rapalogue) cancer therapy.
