David Cunningham

David Cunningham led the MAGIC trial establishing perioperative epirubicin-cisplatin-5FU (ECF) chemotherapy as a standard of care for resectable gastric and GEJ cancers, demonstrating a survival benefit over surgery alone. His work has been foundational for the perioperative approach in gastric cancer management globally. He continues to lead FLOT versus ECX comparative research and novel perioperative combinations including immunotherapy for gastric cancer at the Royal Marsden. Cunningham is among the most cited GI oncologists in the world and has led landmark GI cancer trials across colorectal, gastric, and esophageal malignancies.
