David Chen at UT Southwestern has made foundational contributions to understanding DNA-PK (DNA-dependent protein kinase) and non-homologous end joining (NHEJ) — the primary repair pathway for DNA double-strand breaks in non-dividing cells. His work characterizing DNA-PK's role in radiation sensitivity and on DNA-PK inhibitors as radiosensitizers and cancer therapeutics has contributed to the development of peposertib (M3814) and other DNA-PK inhibitors now in clinical trials.
