Daniel Bhatt investigates the BCL-2 family of apoptosis regulators and their roles in cancer cell survival and resistance to therapy. His research has characterized the structural and functional interactions among pro-survival and pro-apoptotic BCL-2 family members that determine cell fate. He has developed BH3 profiling approaches to predict cancer cell dependence on specific anti-apoptotic proteins and likelihood of response to BH3 mimetics. His translational work has advanced from basic BCL-2 biology to understanding mechanisms of venetoclax resistance and rational combination strategies.
