Crystal Mackall at Stanford develops armored CAR-T cells engineered to secrete cytokines such as IL-15 to overcome the immunosuppressive tumor microenvironment. Her laboratory has pioneered GD2-targeting CAR-T for pediatric solid tumors including diffuse intrinsic pontine glioma. She has defined mechanisms of T cell exhaustion in CAR-T therapy and strategies to maintain durable antitumor activity.
