Gary Clifford

Gary Clifford heads the Genomic Epidemiology Branch at IARC, where his research has mapped HPV type distribution globally and modeled the impact of HPV vaccination on cervical cancer elimination. His studies on HPV-HIV co-infection and cancer risk in African populations have been critical for tailoring prevention strategies in high-burden settings. His genomic epidemiology approach combining viral and host genomics has advanced understanding of why certain populations bear disproportionate burdens of infection-associated cancers.
