Claude Dixon
MD
Professor of Surgery (Historical, 1893-1968)
👥Biography 个人简介
Claude Dixon was a Mayo Clinic surgeon who developed anterior resection as a sphincter-preserving alternative to abdominoperineal resection for rectal cancer. His 1939 publication of the low anterior resection with primary anastomosis established that many rectal cancers previously requiring permanent colostomy could be treated while preserving bowel continuity and sphincter function. His meticulous technique and long-term outcomes data demonstrated that adequate oncological clearance could be achieved with less radical surgery. Dixon's contribution transformed quality of life for rectal cancer patients worldwide.
